Italy Shore Excursions
You have decided on a cruise to Italy, you have chosen your cruise line now you must contemplate what shore excursions your want to take advantage of. Many cruise lines will offer shore excursions as well as many private companies as well. In the case of the private companies, you will need to give them the name of the ship you will be arriving on as well as the arrival and departure dates. They also need to know how many will be in your party.
Often with these private companies, you have the option of some flexibility as to what you get to see. The cruise ships often have their own excursions but they are pre planned and must stick to schedule. In addition, usually these groups are quite large.
For Italy there are private excursions on a daily bases from the ports of Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Venice and Sicily. You may want to pick out one or two of your favorites then research more as to what you would get to see if you were to choose one of this Italy shore excursions.
To give you an example lets assume that you would enjoy a tour of Venice. Here you may be subjected to an extensive but exclusive walking tour. The highlights would be the churches, museums and monuments of importance. To compliment this tour you may have the advantage of taking some private boat rides on the Grand Canal. You would not want to miss out see the famous glass blowing techniques that Venice is famous for. Then there is Burano, known for its cheery houses and exquisite lace making.
Whenever you are contemplating a sight seeing tour at a port you should really do some research as to what are the significant aspect of that particular place. If these are not slated to be on your tour then you may want to re consider. After all, you want to see things that are famous; this is part of the expectations of your trip.
In Venus, you may want to see Saint Marks Square as well as the Doge’s Palace. Then if you were an art lover, there would be the Academia Galleries. For those who are found of majestic old churches the Frari Church and The Sculoa di San Rocco would be significant to you. The list could just go on and on for Venus. There is just so much to see that it would be impossible to get it all in with one tour.
The same applies for other ports in Italy. It will be difficult for you to decide your favorites because there is just so much to see and do, and not enough time to do it all. Then there is always next time, because no doubt you will want to cruise Europe again and who knows maybe return to Italy.
The important thing to remember is to research your destinations and take your time in planning your sight seeing tours. If possible, at least try to go on one shore excursion, as its part of what makes up the excitement of being on a cruise.
